Avante Couture is a fashion soiree to showcase the talents and creations of two emerging
fashion designers; one devoted to avante garde and the other specializing in haute couture. The
two designers, Stephane St. Jaymes and Eugene St. Frimpong, with studios in the Bridgeport
Fashion Design Center, will be unveiling 15 bespoke garments each.
The exclusive collections of St. Frimpong and St. Jaymes will be available for purchase
throughout the evening, as well as beautiful handmade scarves by Haisal Renee.
About the Organizer
Eugene St. Frimpong was born and raised in Kumasi, Ghana where he was self-taught and began to create his own garments. Later after pursing a B.A. at Chicago Art and Design School, IADT in fashion design, he began St. Frimpong. “My garments are edgy, confident, and elegant with a flare of culture to empower the modern woman by merging their inner beauty and confidence”, states Frimpong.
Stephane St. Jaymes grew up in London after his Nigerian parents immigrated to Great Britian in 1960 He learned how to sew helping his mother, a piece machinist. At 14, he returned to Nigeria for four years, where he was further inspired to become a designer before going back to London where he studied fashion for two years at the London College and began to design for private clients, including actress Billie Piper. “I see myself as a style setter, drawing inspiration from the classic designers. I create the patterns and I am never happier than when I am in front of the sewing machine”, states Jaymes.
