Emerging designers showcase style at MODA Spring Fashion Show

Student run organization hosts its annual fashion show featuring 20 Chicago designers, while breaking their record attendance reaching four digit number of guests.

On February 24, 2012 MODA hosted its 8th annual Spring Fashion Show. This branded fashion fête, that used to be held on University of Chicago campus in its earlier years, has grown to more then one thousand attendees and was moved to the bigger venues in the downtown Chicago.

This year’s show was held at the Union Station’s 20,000 sqft Great Hall, marking a new milestone in the success of the event and expanding the reach beyond the limits of the campus.

MODA was established in 2003 with the intention of showcasing fashion on campus and being a resource for student who are interested in fashion. MODA has been hosting fashion events, maintaining an annual magazine and a blog.

MODA’s Designer Bootcamp program allows non-fashion students to try out their skills in fashion design and learn about the process of making clothes. The students then get a chance to show off their creation at the annual fashion show.

The opportunity to showcase at the Spring Fashion Show is presented to known and emerging designers. Five established designers, Ann Taylor, Rent the Runway, Agga B, Miriam Cecilia and Cleons, were featured alongside student designers.

Students from University of Chicago and Columnia College were presented with a chance to show what they’ve got: Lizmarie Oliveras, Catherine Gao, Mary Ella W. Simmons, Harrison Yu and Wendy Wei, MaCashen Nyberg, Francisca Sondjaja, Karen Chen, Kimberly Lum, Lily Lai, Shelby Steiner, Joy Mao, Kaitlyn Lee, Maya Fraser, Fatima Ibrahim, and Alex Laas.

At the reception area before the show begun, guests could enjoy refreshments and drinks while admiring artwork by young talent. And after the show everyone was invited to attend an after party.
