Five Chicago based fashion designers inspire hope at a Project Runway inspired competition hosted by Heshima Kenya. Each designer was asked to create designs using scarfs from Maisha Collective.

After making headlines last year, Next Fashion came back in 2012 during Fashion Focus Week Chicago. The show was once again a grand success featuring 12 designers with a special presentation from PAWS.
Each year the fashion schools in Chicago hand select the most talented of their students to show their collections at the Fashion Focus’ opening show called “Dress Code”. The show featured 20 of the soon to graduate up and coming fashion designers.
“By Latinos for everyone” is the motto of Latino Fashion Week’s 5 day fashion and culture celebration. Held at Zhou B Art Center, the week brought in something different each day from fashion shows and exclusive photoshoots to motivational speakers and VIP receptions.
Latino Fashion Week opening night marked the 6th year anniversary of the 5 day celebration of Latino culture. The Red Carpet Media Party called “Lights, Camera, Fashion” kicked off the week bearing the theme Images of Fashion.
Two art forms were combined under the roof of the Intercontinental Hotel in an unforgettable show. Produced by Benjamin Cottrell Designs the fashion show was accompanied by opera singers from the American Chamber Opera featuring 5 Chicago based fashion designers.
Although it was late September and still more then a month until Halloween, the costumes and masks dress code was happily followed by the guests attending the “Masquerade the Night Away” event.
Chicago Fashion Foundation partners up with FlagshipUSA to hold a fashion show during Fashion’s Night Out at The Underground. As the last event of the day it was a perfect wrap up to the international fashion day.
Coming for the first time to Chicago, “Fashion In The Street” promised to celebrate fashion designers and boutiques in an outdoors festival held in the West Loop. The festival, a collaboration between Benjamin Cottrell Designs and Green Curtain Events, had provided a new challenge for Benjamin who’s been known to tackle and pull off the most extravagant fashion show productions.
The street off West Division St has been closed to hold an all day event that brought together fashion, music, food and shopping. On August 25, 2012 the Fashion Fest put together by M.GO Fashion CO made it’s come back for the 4th year in a row.
At the close of summer, Frontier’s side patio has been transformed into an art inspired spot. The evening featured a jazz performance, fashion runway show, film montage and great food with cocktails.
Since making the step of becoming full time fashion show producer, Benjamin Cottrell has been having hard time finding time for a day off and his calendar has been filling up months in advance.
One of the things Chicago is known for it is for its great skyline. The guests attending PLAY Fashion Show and Fundraiser got a chance to admire the beauty of the city skyscrapers from a private rooftop terrace, taste a variety of sangria flavors and watch a fashion show featuring local vintage designers.
A life of a model is challenging, however it could also be fun, exciting and glamorous. And, as one of Chicago’s own had discovered, the life of a model could also be unpredictable.
