Shopping, style and runway at Fashion in the Street festival

Coming for the first time to Chicago, “Fashion In The Street” promised to celebrate fashion designers and boutiques in an outdoors festival held in the West Loop. The festival, a collaboration between Benjamin Cottrell Designs and Green Curtain Events, had provided a new challenge for Benjamin who’s been known to tackle and pull off the most extravagant fashion show productions.

Benjamin Cottrell Designs, an innovative, full-service firm, specializing in fashion and runway show stylist and production, had produced numerous events in the past year. Benjamin does not shy away from a challenge when it comes to making new innovations on the runway. “So why not shut down a street and put a runway on it?” laughed Benjamin.

And so it was. After three months of working with the city and getting the necessary permits, the Washington Boulevard between Halsted and Green streets has been shut down for the weekend to host the Fashion in the Street. White tents have been put up to house various vendors and the runway the length of a street block has been running down the street.

Fashion shows happening every few hours featured local boutiques and designers were intermixed with band performances. Live mannequin boxes had models showing off designers’ clothes. In the tents vendors were ranging from artists to clothing and accessories.

“Fashion In The Street” is aiming to become a platform for the general public to enjoy a weekend of entertainment and fashion. Looking forward to seeing what they’ll bring next year.
