SAIC’s annual fashion shows are some of the biggest and most attended fashion events in Chicago. Coming back to Millennium Park for the second time on April 19, 2012, the fashion show featured more than 300 original garments created by undergraduate students in the internationally renowned Fashion Design program.
“Is maturity something that comes with age or with experience?” was the question that GOCA used as the foundation for their new collection and the theme for their fashion show. “Elegance of Maturity” collection was the answer to those that had their doubts about the young label.
In a continued effort to unite Chicago’s fashion industry we’ve held our 8th Fashion Industry Mixer. While there was still lots of networking happening, we have added a new twist to this well known industry event.
The Red Pump Project held its 3rd annual “Rock the Red” fashion show at the Society Art Gallery. The event brought together the love for fashion and awareness about HIV/AIDS.
Union League Club of Chicago held it’s 3rd fashion night on Mar 15, 2012. This year’s theme was inspired by Paris. The event was exclusive to club members and their guests and featured a fashion show with four designers: Thierry Roger, Nora del Buco, Monàrrez Collection and Balani Custom Clothiers.
On Mar 7, 2012 Chicago Fashion Foundation hosted its 5th annual Future of Chicago event, titled “Street Style: Chicago Fashion through Chicago Communities.” At the Chicago Cultural Center 10 student designers have competed for the scholarship award.
Student run organization hosts its annual fashion show featuring 20 Chicago designers, while breaking their record attendance reaching four digit number of guests.
For new and emerging talent it may be challenging to find opportunities to showcase their work. It is great that there is an independent organization that creates such opportunities on monthly basis. RAW hosts collaborative events that feature creations of up and coming photographers, artists and designers.
On February 16, 2012 an informal fashion event was held at the House of Blues to raise awareness and funds for Maryville Crisis Nursery to help them continue saving lives by providing short term care for children. Local Chicago artists, fashion and jewelry designers contributed to making the event enjoyable.
Take a refined venue, bring in a wonderful crowd, add a couture fashion designer and the result is a very successful event. Our first event of the year happened to be our biggest Fashion Industry Mixer held to date.
A gallery opening celebrated the end of a year long collaboration that brought together talented Chicago photographers, designers, models. Taking inspiration from various eras, the works on display married art history, fashion and fine art.
RAW: natural born artists 2011 showcase season came to a conclusion and Semi-Finals RAWards took place, where voted top 5 artists in 9 different categories competed for a chance to go to nationals.
Year coming to a close and we’ve held our 6th (gasp!) Fashion Industry Mixer. Yes, 2011 has been a busy one and most definitely a successful one. As the events kept growing, we have met many wonderful people in the fashion industry in Chicago.
Fresh talent was the highlight of the final RAW showcase of the season. Given the time of the year, a very prominent theme has dominated the event.
Green initiatives and environment friendly products are a growing trend. No surprise that fashion has become a big part of the movement with designers producing eco-conscious and sustainable clothes. Some of these latest styles have been presented at the Vert Couture fashion show.
After weeks of preparation and transformation, the five finalists of Mario, Make Me A Model competition faced the ultimate runway challenge at the Fashion Focus Chicago 2011 week at the Millennium Park.
During the Fashion Focus Chicago 2011 week four headlining fashion shows were held at the Millennium Park. Presented by Macy’s, the first show was a fundraiser for Chicago Fashion Incubator, an organization that supports new and emerging designers.

As we have wrapped up the fifth Fashion Industry Mixer we’re excited to share some of the impressions about the event. Once again, a wide variety of fashion industry people were in attendance to network and make connections with others who are fashion minded.
